Responsibilities

The Director of Payroll and HRIS provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and all payroll operations across the organization. This role is responsible for aligning HRIS and payroll functions with the company’s strategic objectives, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and driving efficiency in all related processes. The Director serves as a key advisor to senior leadership and acts as the primary liaison with Area Vice Presidents, Regional Directors, and other senior management teams.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Direct and oversee all aspects of payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. This includes managing and processing the semi-monthly, bi-weekly, and weekly payroll cycles, handling payroll-related inquiries, and resolving discrepancies. Ensure accurate entry and maintenance of payroll data within the HRIS, including salary adjustments, bonuses, and terminations.
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for the global HRIS and payroll functions, ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall strategic plans. Lead the evaluation and continuous improvement of system functionality to enhance user experience, operational efficiency, and data integrity.
  • Oversee the overall management and administration of the HRIS, ensuring the system meets the needs of the organization. This includes configuring system settings, managing user roles and security, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring data accuracy and integrity. Lead efforts to integrate new HRIS modules and features that support the company’s HR strategy.
  • Lead complex HRIS and payroll projects, including system upgrades, integrations, and implementations. Oversee the development and execution of training programs for system users, ensuring that all staff are proficient in utilizing the HRIS effectively.
  • Oversees the garnishment process, including inputting information and informing affected employees and interfacing with garnishing entity as required.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the company and 401(k) plan providers. Ensure accurate deduction entries, timely submission of contributions, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Address employee inquiries regarding 401(k) contributions and benefits, and collaborate with plan administrators to resolve any issues.
  • Establish and maintain robust security protocols for HRIS and payroll data. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including garnishments, 401(k) deductions, and other payroll-related requirements.
  • Work closely with Operations Leaders, State Administrators, and Corporate Departments to address payroll and HRIS issues swiftly. Provide data-driven insights and reports to senior leadership to inform decision-making and improve operational performance.
  • Collaborate with State Operations Leaders to review financial reports, monitor productivity trends, and ensure that payroll operations contribute to meeting or exceeding budgetary goals. Provide strategic input on financial planning and budgeting processes.
  • Conduct periodic audits of electronic personnel files and payroll data to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Address any discrepancies or non-compliance issues proactively.
  • Act as a key liaison between HR, Finance, and other corporate functions to facilitate cross-functional collaboration and ensure seamless integration of HRIS and payroll processes. Represent the organization in external meetings, training sessions, and industry forums as required and manage the required month end, quarter end, and year end processes and reporting.
  • Assist in new hire onboarding process to include launching onboarding events and create completed onboarding events to employee on HRIS/Payroll system.
  • Work with Ops Leaders, Lead State Administrators, and Office Managers on timelines and processes to ensure new hire onboarding is completed in time for payroll processing.
  • Create and provide meaningful reports to the State Ops Leaders to highlight productivity trends and patterns that may need to be addressed and assist State Ops Leaders in reviewing and analyzing Payroll Analysis reports to monitor direct care staff productivity.
  • Create and provide meaningful reports, which show financial trends with the objective of consistently meeting or exceeding the budget’s overall bottom line and assist the State Ops Leaders by reviewing and analyzing monthly and quarterly financial reports.
  • Assist State Ops Leaders in gathering information and completing applications for grants; new programs; and any new funding opportunities as requested.
  • Attend meetings and trainings at Corporate Office; regional offices; Grand Regional and state quarterly operational meetings; or attend meetings & trainings virtually as assigned and requested.
  • When requested, assist Corporate Credentialing staff with providing available information from EPF on licensed providers to ensure all licensed providers are enrolled and credentialed with MCOs and other payers as required; and credentialing is kept current.


This is a Hybrid position.  You will work remotely Monday, Wednesday and Friday and will work in the Franklin, TN office on Tuesday and Thursday.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field with at least 8 years of experience in payroll and HRIS management, including strategic leadership roles.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or significant progress toward completion is required.
  • Extensive experience with payroll processing, HRIS systems, and integration of employees through Mergers and Acquisitions. Experience with Paylocity is a plus.
  • Previous strategic leadership experience acquired through progressive roles within payroll, HRIS, or related fields, demonstrating the ability to drive strategic initiatives and manage complex projects.
