Responsibilities

The Foster Care Home Study Writer is responsible for completing thorough home study assessments for prospective foster families, ensuring all evaluations meet state and agency standards. This role plays a critical part in assessing applicant readiness, promoting child safety, and supporting the placement of children in qualified, stable homes. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive interviews with prospective foster parents to assess readiness and suitability
  • Complete home safety assessments using DCS home study checklist to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Evaluate and approve homes based on DCS policies for foster family selection
  • Develop detailed home study narratives utilizing the Profiles of Parenting (POP) assessment tool
  • Compile, maintain, and submit complete foster family files in accordance with agency and state requirements
  • Obtain and maintain POPS (Profiles of Parenting) certification; training provided as needed

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

 

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Services, Education, Humanities, or related field 
  • Two years of related experience working with children and families in a therapeutic treatment environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with consistent access to reliable transportation and automobile insurance in good standing.
  • POPS certification (Profiles of Parenting) - will be provided if needed

Preferred

  •   Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
  •   Excellent organizational skills
  •   Excellent networking skills and knowledge of the local foster care community
  •   Capacity to utilize the web & web-based systems and other computer systems
  •   Capacity to function well with team, including home study supervisor and DCS staff
